YEREVAN (Yerkir)–Some 288,682 people participated in an early election poll conducted by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation between November 24 and 28 at tents and mobile polling stations in Yerevan and other regions of Armenia.
The polling campaign, entitled, "participate in our vote, let’s elect ARF candidate," provided Armenia’s with an unprecedented opportunity to participate in the decision-making process of a major Armenian political party to choose its presidential candidate.
126,495 came out to cast their ballots in Yerevan, while 162,187 chimed in throughout other region in the country. Only 6211 ballots were considered invalid, as many of them had voted for both candidates.
According to the results, Vahan Hovanesian 149,717 votes (53 percent), while Armen Rustamian received 132,769 (47 percent).
During a special convention Friday the ARF’s Armenia organization nominated Vahan Hovanessian as the party’s candidate for the upcoming presidential elections.
