YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Foreign Investors Assembly NGO–which has rendered support to foreign Armenian businessmen intending to invest in Armenia’since 1998–has begun to develop a new strategy of activities for the next 2-3 years. The Assembly’s President Varoujan Kuzukian said that while over the past years their work was more of a social nature–now steps on making investmen’s in the real sector of the economy have been boosted now.
According to him–as a result of expected investmen’s–5-10 thousand new jobs will be opened in different branches of the country’s economy within the next 1-2 years. Besides–the organization is actively participating in the reforms of the investment-related legislation.
Dividing the investmen’s made in Armenia into two parts–Kuzukian emphasized that foreigners are also interested in huge companies ("ArmenTel"–"Nairit"). Meanwhile–foreigners are not interested in small investmen’s–up to $500,000–which the country needs badly to build up its economy–and foreign Armenia’s must make such investmen’s.
"If I were not an Armenian–I would not make investmen’s in Armenia," he said–adding that "if every 50th Armenian living abroad sets up his business here–the country’s economic development will become indisputably evident."
It was also pointed out that during the pre-election period the organization will assume a passive position–which is conditioned by the desire not to be politicized for this period.
