YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian arrived in Lisbon on November 13 to hold meetings with the President of Portugal Jorge Sampayo–Foreign Minister Jaime Gaima and President of the Galust Gyulbenkian fund Victor Sa Mashado.
During the meeting with the Portuguese foreign minister–the sides exchanged views on the possibility of bilateral cooperation within the framework of international organizations. Addressing Armenian-EU relations–Minister Oskanian pointed out that Armenia attaches importance to the expansion of cooperation with this organization–particularly in the sphere of information technologies. He expressed gratitude for Portugal’s support of Armenia’s admission to the Council of Europe. The two countries’ foreign ministers signed a Protocol on consultations between the Foreign Offices of the two countries–and an Intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the cultural–scientific and educational spheres. Foreign Minister Gama accepted Oskanian’s invitation to pay an official visit to Armenia early next year.
At his meeting with Portuguese President Sampayo–Minister Oskanian handed to him a message from President Kocharian which contained an invitation to visit Armenia.
The same day Oskanian held a meeting with the president of the Gyulbenkian fund. During the meeting the minister expressed gratitude for the scientific–educational and cultural assistance rendered by the fund to Armenia. The minister invited the president of the fund to visit Armenia and participate in the celebrations of the 1700th anniversary of adoption of Christianity in Armenia.
