YEREVAN (Armenpress)–An official ceremony was held for the opening of the first academic year at the recently opened French University of Armenia. The ceremony was attended by senior officials of the education and science ministry–heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Yerevan–the students and their parents.
Members of the University’s Administration Board–including French Ambassador Michel Legras–German Ambassador Volker Seitz–British Ambassador Timothy Jones and the leader of Orinats Yerkir party Arthur Baghdasarian welcomed the 150 first year students. Michel Legras said that the French University is supposed to be a hearth of European civilization in Armenia for which it has all the possibilities–including a highly qualified staff and students who had to pass through a serious contest to be enrolled–a new building and support from German and British governmen’s.
Germany’s Ambassador said that none of 89 universities in Armenia would be able to yield as qualified specialist in economy as the French University. The ambassador of Great Britain said in jest in his greeting speech which was made in French–that his presence at the ceremony was a testimony of European standards available at the University.
