GLENDALE–The Armenian-American Friends of Scott Wildman committee hosted a fundraiser last Sunday at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Antranik and Haiganoush Sepetjian–where more than 60 community members gathered to express their support for Assemblyman Wildman’s bid for the State Senate.
Wildman a Democratic assemblyman from California’s 43rd Assembly district is vying for the 21st California State Senate seat.
During a brief program–Glendale City Council member Rafi Manoukian whose in-laws hosted the gathering–praised Wildman for his continued support of Armenian-American issues.
Manoukian stressed that Wildman’s ability for taking initiatives on behalf of his constituency has made him one of the staunchest advocates for Armenian-American is Sacramento and a close friend of the community.
Manoukian also–once again–thanked the Assemblyman for the support he vocalized during Manoukian’s bid for City Council earlier this year.
He urged the guests and the Armenian-American community to work hard in ensuring Wildman’s election to the State Senate.
In his remarks–Wildman praised the Armenian-American community for his vitality and expressed his deep support for issues of importance to the community.
He pledged to continue his fight in Sacramento against the establishment of Turkish chairs in state universities and to step-up efforts in educating Californians about the horrors of the Armenian Genocide to ensure that such a crime does not occur again. Wildman also commended the community for its active participation in the electoral process and pledged to support all efforts by the community to empower itself and become a strong voice in local–state and federal elections. He expressed his support for the "25,000 in 2000" initiative–the Manoukian-chaired effort of registering and increasing voters and their participation.
Following Wildman’s remarks–his wife Arlene addressed the crowd and explained that following her husband’s first election to the State Assembly and the relocation of their district offices to Glendale–it was the Armenian-American community which made them and their team feel at home.
She explained that the warm reception from the community will always be remembered by her and her husband–and thanked the community for its support.
The primary elections are slated for Tuesday–March 7–2000.
