GLENADLE (Combined Sources)—Democrat Mike Gatto and Republican Sunder Ramani will face off in a special June runoff election for the 43rd Assembly District to finish off the term for the seat left vacant by Paul Krekorian after his win in the LA City Council race last fall.
While an Armenian will not continue Krekorian’s term, 30 percent of the voters in Tuesday’s special election were Armenian, signaling a large voter turnout by the Armenian-American community.
Gatto’s main Democratic challenger, Glendale school board member Nayiri Nahabedian, took 22 percent of the vote, with 7,298, while the other Democrat in the race, Chahe Keuroghelian, was last with 4,444, or 14 percent. With all precincts reporting, Gatto was the top vote-getter with 10,584 votes. Ramani earned 10,403.
The election results also indicate that the Armenian-American vote was split.
