YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Representatives of the Armenian community in Almaty–Kazakhstan–gathered on April 24 to pay tribute to the memory of victims of the 1915 Genocide. The event was hosted by a school in an Armenian-populated borough of the Kazakh capital.
Some 20 minutes after the gathering convened–the school housing the commemoration was surrounded by police–who requested the immediate evacuation of the building.
The police later announced that an unidentified woman phoned in a bomb threat to the police.
The commemoration was the second major event organized by the Armenian community of Almaty to be foiled–during the last three years.
