TBILISI (Noyan Tapan)–The Georgian parliament has formed a special commission to review and address issues stemming from recent problems in the mainly Armenian-dominated region of Akhalkalak.
As Georgia prepares for upcoming elections this–several political parties have begun posturing claims on Akhalkalak.
Last week–a representative of the Georgian Democratic Party alleged that the Akhalkalak leadership–namely its regional administrative president Genady Mouradyan and prosecutor Garik Rayisyan–were serving the interests of one particular group.
Georgian Parliament Speaker Zurab Zhvania said Wednesday that the special commission has the task of finding out the motives for further exacerbating matter in Akhalkalak.
Zhvania said the so-called political crisis in Akhalkalak was artificial and was being prompted by various political parties in Tbilisi.
