YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A solemn ceremony devoted to the establishment of a residential district for refugees from Azerbaijan and Nagorno Karabakh took place in Echmiadzin on August 12. The construction of cottages was sponsored by the German government and the UN Mission to Armenia. 121 cottages (242 apartmen’s) were put into operation and occupied by 205 families–or 732 people. A polyclinic and a convalescent home were also built. "Thirty percent of refugees in Echmiadzin now have living space in the new district," Mayor of Echmiadzin Yervand Aghvanian said.
The opening ceremony was attended by Armenian Social Security Minister Hranoush Hakobian–Mayor-Governor of Armavir Sedrak Hovanissian–leader of the German delegation to Armenia–representative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development Marion Hopman–High Commissioner for Refugees at the UN Mission to Armenia Rob Robinson.
