YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The 5th international Golden Apricot film festival will open in Yerevan on July 13 and run through July 20. Armenian film lovers will be able to watch films by prominent and young film directors for a whole week in two cinema houses.
Mikael Stamboltsian from the festival’s steering committee told a news conference today that apart from screening films the festival will also host prominent people from film industry, including Vim Venders, the President of the European Cinema Academy, a prominent Iranian director Dahrush Mehrju, prominent Armenian documentary director Artavazd Peleshian, as well as Roman Balayan from Ukraine, Atom Egoyan of Canada and others.
The steering committee received 400 applications from 65 countries.
Prizes will be awarded in the category of fiction films, documentaries, Armenian panorama, Directors Without Borders. Two more prizes, FIPRSS and Ecumenical, will be awarded.
The festival will also feature a series of events dedicated to the centenary of American Armenian author William Saroyan. The wife of prominent Italian director, Michelangelo Antonioni, will arrive to be present at launching of program devoted to her husband.
The festival’s main sponsor is VivaCell mobile phone operator.
