ANKARA (Combined Sources)–An agreement to open the Armenian-Turkish border will not be announced on April 16, Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Friday, dismissing media reports indicating an imminent agreement would be announced during Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan’s upcoming trip to Yerevan next week, the Azeri Press Agency reported quoting Gul’s official website.
Babacan is scheduled to fly to Yerevan on April to participate in a meeting of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization, of which both Turkey and Armenia are members.
Gul’s remarks came during a press conference ahead of his departure for Strasburg to attend NATO’s 60th Anniversary summit.
“Turkey works toward establishing peace and stability in the region. Our neighbors are also working toward that aim are ready to shake the hand Turkey offers,” he said. “It is just one phase. Our relevant officials are making the efforts and holding the meetings on this issue.”
