MISSION HILLS–Calif.–A unique and unprecedented show of Armenian traditional costumes organized by the Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Association–took place on October 29 at the Deukmejian Hall at Ararat Home–during which some 700 community members and supporters witnessed the first of its kind costume display in Southern California.
Sponsored by the Hamazkayin Western Regional Executive–with the participation of the Bay Area’s Krouzian-Zekarian Vasbouragan Armenian School–the event was an important and unique effort to bring to life the costumes and traditions of Armenia.
The 13-member committee–headed by Rita Demirdjian and Shoushig Aslanian–planned a festival outside of the main ballroom–with displays of Armenian tapestry–food and artifacts as a precursor to the costume show.
During the program–veteran Hamazkayin leader and activist Yeghig Konyalian was awarded an appreciation medal by the organization’s Central Executive. The honor was presented by Central Executive member Hratch Simonian.
Mistress of Ceremonies Ani Hovannisian adeptly guided the program to its impressive finale.
