YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The Board of Trustees of the Pan-Armenian Hayastan Fund opened its 10th session in Yerevan on May 7. The meeting was chaired by President Robert Kocharian.
In his opening speech–President Kocharian noted that the programs realized by the Fund will be discussed–and the executive director of the Fund will present an annual report. Twenty-three members of the Board of Trustees were present at the session.
President Kocharian awarded several representatives of the Fund–particularly Zareh Chelikcjian from Canada–Jorje Vardparonian from Argentina and Noubar Sepoyan-Sipan for their active participation in the Fund’s activities.
Another item on the agenda was the election of new members on the Board. Armenia’s prime minister–finance and economy minister–state revenues minister–and a representative of the Armenian Evangelical Church Dr. Rene Levonian were elected to the Board.
President Kocharian said that the current year is rich in jubilee events: the 1700th anniversary of Christianity in Armenia and the 10th anniversary of Armenia’s independence. In this connection–an extensive range of officially sponsored events and festivities have been drafted–in which Armenia-Diaspora relations are given special attention. The second Pan-Armenian Olympic Games and the One Nation-One Culture Musical Festival are to be held this year.
Kocharian singled out the construction of the North-South highway in Karabakh and the continuation of restoration works in the disaster zone.
