HUNTINGTON BEACH–Walter Hekimian was recently elected to serve a second consecutive term as the Vice Chairman for the California Association of Health Facilities (CAHF) during its annual convention in Anaheim. The organization represents more than 1,200 of the 1,500 nursing facilities in California and is recognized as the primary voice for advocating on behalf of its membership and the patients they serve.
During his acceptance speech, Mr. Hekimian addressed the challenges facing the nursing home profession and its residents during the upcoming year in light of the huge budget deficits California is presently facing. Without reservation, he spoke of his passion for helping to build upon the programs and progress that has been made on behalf of the seniors presently being cared for in nursing facilities throughout the state.
Hekimian understands that today’s consumers of long term care services, and their families, have much higher expectations than consumers of yesterday. “Consumers expect more choices, a more home- like environment and patient-centered care which supports our patients’ individual needs and choices. Forward thinking facilities are making changes to meet expectations in order to appeal to their new audiences with amenities which enrich our patient’s lives,” said Hekimian.
Hekimian is the former Chief Executive Officer and Administrator of the Ararat Home of Los Angeles and is currently the President of Team Rehab, Inc. a company which provides consulting services to nursing facilities throughout California. With nearly 35 years of executive leadership in healthcare, Mr. Hekimian is recognized as a leader in the field of skilled nursing.
