GLENDALE—A pride worthy sentiment has overcome the Homenetmen family upon learning that one of its long-time athletes, Narbeh Ebrahimian, was accepted into the San Diego State University Men’s Basketball team.
Ebrahimian transferred to SDSU in August 2011, where he continues his studies with a major in Kinesiology the scientific study of human movement. Trying out for the university’s basketball team one month after his transfer, Ebrahimian was accepted into the team by basketball coach, Steve Fisher. He received official qualification from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) on December 2, 2011 and was officially added to the SDSU basketball roster.
Narbeh Ebrahimian clearly took an interest in basketball early on in his childhood and engaging in Homenetmen allowed the athlete to exercise his skills and talent for the sport. Born on February 23, 1991, Ebrahimian has been a member of the Homenetmen Glendale “Ararat” Chapter for 14 years. He joined the chapter at the age of 7 while participating as an F Division basketball player, as well as a scout. Throughout his years of membership in Homenetmen, Ebrahimian has taken part in 14 Navasartian Games, competing in F through A-1 divisions, and has been a winner of numerous gold medals in both basketball and track & field. Although his Homenetmen team, coached by Martin Avanessian, had frequently played against teams that are one to two divisions older, they have nevertheless championed outstanding results. Last year, Ebrahimian joined the Ararat A-1 team and his athletic skills helped the team capture a Navasartian gold medal.
Even in high school, Ebrahimian’s passion for the sport drove him to join the Crescenta Valley High School’s basketball team. In his sophomore year, he was already the starting point guard for the school’s varsity team. After graduating high school and attending Glendale College, Ebrahimian continued playing on the college team and, in his second year, was named the team’s Most Valuable Player. In addition, he was also named “All Conference Player” by coaches of the Western State – South Division Conference.
In May 2011, Ebrahimian was nominated to receive the Glendale Athlete with Character and Ethics Award, which celebrates individuals of strong moral character and sportsmanship.
It is certainly encouraging and inspirational to witness one of Homenetmen’s own excelling in his sport and, on behalf of the entire Homenetmen family, may he continue to shine in his athletic and scholastic career.
