YEREVAN–Interment of the long-time Armenian Revolutionary Federation leader and Bureau chairman Hrair Maroukhian arrived in Yerevan Thursday–for burial ceremonies scheduled for Saturday. President Robert Kocharian issued a condolence message on the ARF leader’s death.
"I would like to express my deepest sympathies on the death of political leader and long-time ARF Bureau chairman Hrair Maroukhian and extend my condolences to the family–relatives and fellow party members of the intellectual and nationalist," read Kocharian’s message.
"The loss of Hrair Maroukhian is sad–since in his national and political work–he made enormous difference and contribution to the principle and ideal of Armenian independence and the establishment of a free Armenian state," the president expressed in his message.
Maroukhian’s burial was scheduled to take place Saturday at the Yerevan national cemetery at 2 p.m. local time–following which a two-hour memorial gathering was planned at the Chamber Music Hall.
ARF and other political leaders from throughout the world arrived in Armenia to attend Maroukhian’s funeral.
A delegation of representing the ARF Central Committee of Western US also arrived in Armenia and will take part in the ceremonies.
