YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–On August 15–1947–India declared independence–casting off the colonial yoke of Great Britain. On the 54th anniversary of independence–an event to celebrate India’s achievemen’s as well as assess the current state of her relations with other countries–in particular–with Armenia–was held at the Indian Embassy in Yerevan on August 15.
In his speech Indian Ambassador to Armenia–Bal Anand–pointed out that the bilateral relations have considerably developed during the last few years. Agreemen’s have been reached on cooperation regarding education–science and economy. Under these agreemen’s approximately 1,000 students are studying in the Armenian universities. Also the Armenian seminary "Mardasirats" operates in Calcutta–and has 80 students. In addition to the Armenian seminary–special days celebrating Armenia’s culture are regularly organized in India.
The ambassador pointed out that the bilateral economic relations are also developing. Emphasizing the two countries’ cooperation in the high technologies–Ambassador Aland acknowledged the promising cooperation within the pharmaceutical and the light industries.
Attending the event were officials of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs–representatives of international and local organizations–Indian students and other guests.
