Intellectuals concerned with the past two-three years of political unrest in Armenia–wrote a letter addressed to Levon Ter-Petrosyan stating the need for "national cooperation and civil rights" in order to "preserve the independence of the nation and to solve fundamental national issues."
"It is obvious that the current situation can be resolved if there is national effort to iron out domestic issues," the letter read.
The cosigners also recognized Ter-Petrosyan’s role in the process–calling it his "moral responsibility." The first step in fulfilling his responsibilities would be to release from prison Hrand Markarian–the intellectuals requested.
