YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenia’s minister of Interior and National Security Serge Sargsian Wednesday warned against calls for dividing his ministry into two separate entities.
Sargsian said entities calling for the split "aim to enter the realm of the president and prime ministers–since according to the Armenian Constitution–with the suggestion of the prime minister the president decides the government structures."
The minister went on to say that the entities advocating for a split in the ministry "have other agendas" which are not simply to reform the country’s internal security.
Sargsian said the issue of the split was being raised because of the upcoming elections.
"We are approaching elections–and those calling for the split aim to create certain bases through which they would address their own issues," said Sargsian.
