YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The first international marathon with a distance of 42km (15 miles) will take place in Yerevan October 24.
The race will start and finish at the Theater square of the Armenian capital.
The marathon is organized by the Armenian Ministry of Culture–Sports and Youth Affairs and the United Nations Office in Armenia.
Head of the UN Department of Public Information Enku Kebede told journalists on Tuesday that the marathon will be held annually on October 24–the official United Nations Day.
The marathon is sponsored by a representative of Midland Armenia Bank jsc. Brenda Phillips and United Methodist Committee of Relief.
Kebede also reported that he was going to participate in the marathon to raise funds for purchase of medical equipment for those suffering from breast cancer.
