YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The government of Armenia is holding negotiations with potential investors in construction of the Iran-Armenia pipeline–Armenian Energy Minister Karen Galustian told Armenpress.
As announced earlier–if the construction works starts this autumn–the first stage of the construction may be completed by autumn 2001. The first stage presupposes the construction of 100 kilometers of the pipeline in the territory of Iran and 41 more kilometers in Armenia.
An international consortium for the construction of Iran-Armenia pipeline with Russian Gazprom–Gaz de France–Iranian National Gas Company and Armenia’s Energy Ministry is planned to be set up.
Georgian PNA news agency reported from Ukraine’s capital last week that Ukraine is ready to import up to 10 billion cubic meters of gas from Iran via Armenia annually.
The international agreement on the pipeline construction was signed in 1992. The estimated cost of the project amounts to $124 million.
