The Surp Asdvadzadzin Patriarchate Church in Istanbul

ISTANBUL—The Armenian Patriarchate of Turkey will hold a Mass on April 24 in memory of “those who lost their lives in 1915.” In his speech at the liturgy, Archbishop Aram Ateshian, who is the acting Patriarch, will not use the term “genocide,” but will emphasize “shared pain,” Agos reports.

According to a report by Okan Konuralp for Hurriyet Daily, the Mass, led by Archbishop Ateshian, will begin on the morning of April 24 at the Surp Asdvadzadzin Patriarchate Church at 9:30 a.m. As Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, has ordained, those who lost their lives in 1915 will be commemorated as martyrs at the mass.

Agos reports, citing Hurriyet Daily, that, in his speech at the mass, Archbishop Ateshian will avoid the term “genocide.”

At the same time, the Patriarchate will not participate in the mass and bell-chiming ceremony that is meant to be held at all Armenian churches around the world on April 23.

My family is Bolsahay but I detest the majority of Armenians living in Turkey. All those people you see Commemorating on April 24 in Istanbul are Turks of Conscience. No Bolsahays participate because all they care about is money and kef. What are you good for nothings doing about Sevan Nisanyan? Nothing. Also we all know most of you didn’t like Hrant Dink because he was a troublemaker and disturbed your kef. Now you love him. Too late.

This should be a do or die moment. If the Pope can utter the word then surely the Armenian Patriarchate of Turkey can utter it as well. What kind of example are we setting for the rest of the world? We should be the first to sacrifice if we truly seek truth and justice. This will send a negative message to everyone including the Turks who are willing to help us. It’s setting a precedence of weakness against injustice and continual denial. The Armenian Patriarchate of Turkey is collaborating with the idealists.

This certainly is a cowardly stance for an Armenian Patriarchate! Where is it’s righteous indignation?

If it is true what Agos says,That comedian Ateshian (I will not even call him Patriarc)Should not be leading the community in Turkey.he is a discrace to the Patriarc’s chair. If the Turkish PM’s adviser is brave enough to use the word GENOCIDE,why can’t he do the same? After all it is his duty.Alternatively he should not be there.

How do we get rid of this patriarch ? He is a puppet of the Turk government, and his strings are pulled and heaved by the Turk. He is useless to the Armenian struggle and cause. He is not worth the shoelaces of pope Francis, and he is an Armenian ??????. He might be afraid he would be equated as a stupid man, as per erdogans invective, or maybe he is fearful of deportation by Erdogan ??????? Whatever the case , if he gets deported, we do not want him in hayastan..
