YEREVAN (A-Info)–The "Javakhk" Dance Ensemble of Akhalkalak–which recently registered tremendous success at Yerevan and Tbilisi dance festivals–will take it to the international level to participate in international dance festivals in Hungary and Slovakia.
The founder and artistic director of the ensemble Alik Kopoyan–proudly revealed that the ensemble will have the opportunity to present various traditional dances of Javakhk–from throughout the ages–to the international public.
The ensemble was established in 2000–on Kopoyan’s initiative–who was at the time director of the regional cultural center of Akhalkalak.
Kopoyan–a consistent supporter and follower of traditional troubadour (kusan) school–has for the past year undertaken the unique task of preserving the ancient dances of Javakhk.
Based on ethnographer Janna Khachatrian’s studies–conversations with elders–personal research– and with the help of dance instructor Gagik Ginosian–Kopoyan has reintroduced such historical dances such as Glor Bar–Shoror and Pulur–which are all presently being performed by the Javakhk dance ensemble.
