NICOSIA, Cyprus–On the evening of July 8, a statement was posted on Jennifer Lopez’s official website announcing the cancellation of her upcoming trip to Northern Cyprus.

The statement read: “Jennifer Lopez would never knowingly support any state, country, institution or regime that was associated with any form of human rights abuse. After a full review of the relevant circumstances in Cyprus, it was the decision of her advisors to withdraw from the appearance. This was a team decision that reflects our sensitivity to the political realities of the region.”

Cypriot organizations were asking the public to call, fax, or email the William Morris Agency in New York, which represents Lopez, in an effort to urge her “not to visit Turkish-occupied Cyprus.”

Lopez was expected to arrive in Cyprus on July 20, which marks the 36th anniversary of the illegal Turkish military invasion of Cyprus.

According to reports, Lopez was to be paid $3 million to celebrate the anniversary.

It was the hard work of many Cypriots but especially Nikos Taneris of CANA who rallied people worldwide to write and journalists stepped foreward. Thank God Jennifer Lopez had a change of heart and understands it is a matter of human rights abuse.
Nikos is a true supporter of ANCA and Armenian rights, he is a brave Spartan.
