WATERTOWN–The Armenian Relief Society’s Educational Endowment Fund received this week a donation of $150,000 by Mr. and Mrs. George and Mellina Jizmajian.
The yearly proceeds of the “Smpad Jizmajian Endowment Fund,” which was named in memory of their father will be used to fund the support and education of Armenian orphans.
“Many years ago the Jizmajians established an endowment fund with the ARS and its proceeds have been used as gran’s for educational purposes,” said ARS, Inc. Chairperson Hasmig Derderian. “This new donation is the best proof of the trust the Jizmajians have in the ARS.”
The ARS, Inc. established the ARS Orphans Education Fund earlier this year to assist orphans in the ARS Orphan Sponsorship Program in their pursuit of a college education.
The ARS Central Executive Board also oversees the Eremian Scholarship Fund, which provides gran’s to college students.
“The Armenian nation always gave precedence to education. Since its establishment, the ARS has been doing its best to assist needy Armenian students in the hope that after graduation they will serve their nation and homeland,” according to Derderian.
“We call upon all our compatriots to follow the example of the Jizmajians and assist the youth realize their dreams by donating to the ARS Educational Endowment Fund.”
With its entities operating in 26 countries, the ARS is the oldest Armenian women’s benevolent organization. The ARS has a 501 c3 tax exempt status in the United States.
