LOS ANGELES—The Los Angeles Affiliate of the Armenian International Women’s Association are proud to announce the donation of $50,000 from the John and Hasmik Mgrdichian Foundation for the establishment of the Jasmine Mgrdichian Endowment Fund. The funds from the Endowment Fund will benefit young deserving Armenian women with scholarships toward their college education.
AIWA’s L.A. Affiliate will be outlining the objectives and criteria of the scholarships and look forward with pride to developing a meaningful and rewarding program that will provide assistance to future generations of Armenian women. “Our L.A. Affiliate has the privilege of establishing a scholarship as a living legacy in honor of Jasmine Mgrdichian, one of the founders of our affiliate. It was through her leadership that our affiliate was established in 1995 bringing together Armenian women from throughout California to support the mission and goals of AIWA,” observed Diane Cabraloff, President of AIWA- L.A. Affiliate.
AIWA’s Statement of Purpose is “To unite Armenian women worldwide and to address the critical issues facing them everywhere.” Its objectives have been to establish contact with women’s organizations both Armenian and non-Armenian; to increase the visibility of Armenian women; to provide a forum for dialogue and discussion on issues of interest to Armenian women in fields that include education, social welfare, culture, business and the perpetuation of our heritage; to gather information about the changing role of women in the world; to develop a liaison with world news agencies; and to sponsor programs and publications to further these purposes.
The Armenian International Women’s Association was established and incorporated as a non-profit, non-political organization in March 1991 in recognition of the need for an Armenian organization that would unite Armenian women worldwide and focus on issues of mutual interest and concern. Successful international conferences have been held in London (1994); Paris (1997); Yerevan (2000), Geneva (2004) and Buenos Aires (2008). Plans for the Sixth International Conference are currently underway with the probability that it will be held in October of 2011. The Los Angeles Affiliate will be hosts of the International Conference and are researching locations on the West Coast of the United States.
