YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A delegation of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic led by Karabakh President Arkady Ghoukassian will visit the USA beginning on Friday.
The Karabakh delegation will be participating in the Armenia Fund Telethon in Los Angeles on Thanksgiving Day–November 25. The goal of the telethon is to raise funds for the construction of the North-South highway in Karabakh. During the visit the Karabakh delegation will hold meetings with representatives of Armenian communities in New York–Boston–Detroit–San Francisco and Los Angeles to discuss further cooperation between Karabakh and the Diaspora. The delegation is also expected to hold meetings with a number of political figures–leaders of Armenian parties–public representatives and mass media.
After the US visit–the delegation will fly to Paris to study the possibility of involving the Armenian Diaspora in Europe in the construction of the North-South highway.
The funds for the construction of the Goris-Stepanakert highway–whose last section was opened on November 12–were raised during the previous Armenia Fund Telethon.
10. Mutual Trust and Unity Established In Parliament–Says Speaker
YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–On November 17 Armenia’s Parliament Chairman Armen Khachatrian met with Catholicos of All Armenia’s Karekin II.
The Supreme Patriarch congratulated Armen Khachatrian upon his election as parliament chairman and wished him success in his law-making activities.
Karekin II noted that the crisis which followed the October 27 killings in parliament was quickly overcome–thanks to the composed position of the Armenian leadership. His Holiness said that stability has been restored and the Armenia life is back to normal. The Catholicos stressed the role and efforts of Armen Khachatrian in that matter. Speaking of the role of Church in the life of the Armenian people–Karekin II noted that the mission of the Church is to strengthen the faith based on love–patriotism and commitment–support the spirit and the will of the people and contribute to the rebuilding of the Armenian statehood.
Khachatrian said–"Today we all must serve the strengthening of the state–establishment of the statehood in the name of accomplishing high ideals–the welfare and prosperity of the country and the people." He stressed the role of the church in maintaining the identity of the nation. In connection with the October 27 killings–Khachatrian stressed that all those who encroached upon the homeland and the statehood would be severely punished.
The Speaker of the National Assembly also said that currently the atmosphere of mutual trust and unity reigns in parliament–which has contributed to the adoption of realistic and efficient laws.
The two also discussed issues–pertaining to state-church relations.
