STEPANAKERT (RFE/RL)–The authorities in Nagorno-Karabakh have embarked on a one-year process of replacing old Soviet passports with new ones to be distributed to citizens of the unrecognized republic.
According to a government decision made on Tuesday–the replacement will start from the capital Stepanakert where it will be completed by the end of November. Other areas of Nagorno-Karabakh are due to be covered in one year’s time. Citizens of Nagorno-Karabakh–internationally deemed part of Azerbaijan–have until now traveled abroad using Armenian passports. It is unclear if they will continue to do so after obtaining new passports.
