YEREVAN (Yerkir)-The Recognition of Karabakh’s independence is only a stepping-stone for its unification with Armenia, said the Armenian Revolutionary Federation’s Political Director Giro Manoyan remarked Monday during a public debate with pesidential candidate Arman Melikian.
Manoyan’s comment was in response to accusations by Melikian that the ARF had not articulated a position on the liberated territories of Karabakh and the seven Armenian controlled regions surrounding it.
The ARF clearly stated in 2001, ahead of the Key West talks, and later in 2004, at the ARF congress, that the international recognition of liberated Artsakh should be the goal of all negotiations, Manoyan said.
But the recognition of independence is not a final goal for us," Manoyan added. "We want unification and the seven Armenian controlled regions surrounding Karabakh are an integral part of that unification, according to Manoyan.
The most viable option for resolving the dispute with Azerbaijan and securing our goals is spelled out in Presidential Candidate Vahan Hovannesian’s election platform, Manoyan concluded.
