YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–His Holiness Karekin II–Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenia’s–began his pontifical visit to the Diocese of Karabakh.
The Kashatagh region–which connects Armenia and Karabakh–was the first site where His Holiness was met and welcomed. His Eminence Archbishop Barkev Martirossian–the Primate of the Karabakh Diocese; Alexan Haroutunian–Head of the local regional administrative structures along with other Nagorno-Karabakh authorities met His Holiness at the regional border. Soon after that residents of the village of Berdazor of the Kashatagh region were waiting for His Holiness and his patriarchal blessing and message in the Church of Holy Ascension.
"It was the debt of our soul to visit the heroic land of Karabakh during the first year of Our pontifical ministry and to give the blessing of the Mother See of Holy Echmiadzin to our faithful people–which for seventy years have been deprived of the opportunity to be communicated with the spiritual life–religious rites and ceremonies," said His Holiness.
His Holiness paid tribute to the war heroes who died for Karabakh. His Holiness expressed appreciation also to the people and the authorities of Karabakh–by whose invincible spirit and faith that memory of those who died lives on.
