YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"It is rather difficult to label organizers of the September 25 disturbances as both organizers and participants as they are the same people," defendant Kim Balayan said Monday at a court hearing of the September 25 case.
Balayan is sure that Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia–Ara Sahakian–a victim in the case himself–knows who beat him–while National Assembly Speaker Babken Ararktsian–was aware that the true culprits in the disturbances were neither the defendants nor suspects being accused in the case. Balayan said it was not by accident that firefighters and police did not prevent the attackers from entering the National Assembly confines.
Balayan regarded as groundless all charges brought against him and noted that cartridges found at his apartment did not belong to him.
Balayan said that he was subjected to persecution by authorities for his political views–and alleged that former Minister of the Interior–Vano Siradeghian–orchestrated an attempt on his life. Balayan noted that the law enforcement agents arrested his 72-year old father to pressure him.
In his speech Balayan spoke of outlawing differences between the Armenian Revolutionary Federation in Armenia and the opposition. .
