ANKARA (Armenpress)–The August 14 meeting between presidents Robert Kocharian and Heydar Aliyev at the border of Nakhichevan was reported by most major Turkish newspaper–often with distorted facts.
After presenting its readers with the background information of the Karabakh conflict and an argument in favor of the Azeri side–"Ratikal" Turkish newspaper noted the meeting spot between the presidents of Satarak is located near "Kyark–another village forcefully takeover by Armenia from Nakhichevan."
According to "Hurriyet," the Kocharian-Aliyev meeting sought not only to address the Karabakh conflict–but to also bring about economic ties. The newspaper notes thatKocharian has been faced with serious economic troubles due to the Turk-Azerbaijani blockade–and is attempting to draw the country out of its time of crisis before the upcoming presidential elections.
The "Chaman" newspaper reported that prior to the meeting at Satarak–Aliyev announced that Turkey will not under any circumstances budge on its current blockade of Armenia–no matter how much the European Union insists on them to do otherwise. The newspaper stated that the severe damages caused by the Turk-Azeri blockade of Armenia–situates Iran–with which "Yerevan has established warm ties with during the last several years," as Armenia’s only passage to the outside world.
