YEREVAN (combine sources)–The Armenian delegation returned from Paris on February 16. At the airport the President was met by various officials.
During the press briefing at Zvartnots Airport–Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian said the state visit of President Robert Kocharian to France was very successful. "We will long remember this visit–since it was crucial to us in several directions," the minister underlined. "First–it was the development of bilateral relations between Armenia and France–and in particular–the economic sphere. Next–it was the discussion of regional problems–especially the Karabakh conflict settlement. High-level discussions were held in all these directions and positive shifts have been registered in all three directions," Oskanian said.
When asked to explain why the Armenian delegation was given a warm reception in France–Oskanian said there were various reasons. The minister singled out one circumstance: "Stability in our domestic politics which we have been achieved lately–especially after the events of October 27–1999–and our developing economy is appreciated by all of Europe–especially France–which plays a leading role within European structures. Europe hopes that Armenia can become a factor of peace and stability in the region."
Stressing on the importance of his meetings with French business circles–Kocharian added that concrete agreemen’s had been reached–and as for the Armenian community of France–he said it was in a splendid state. The president was also pleased to announce his invitation to French President Jacques Chirac had been accepted.
