YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–President Robert Kocharian attended the first meeting of the Council of Justice Tuesday.
Kocharian said the Council of Justice is responsible for progress in the judicial system. Saying that the Council is a link between the president and the judicial system–Kocharian emphasized that the sole requirement the Council must have is that it be as impartial as possible. A free and independent judicial system is a serious guarantee of the development of a democratic institution–the president stressed.
The Council had on its agenda the Ministry of Justice’s request regarding the attestation of judges.
In consideration of the fact that the current Law "On the Council of Justice" can no longer meet the requiremen’s of the present judicial system–the meeting suggested amending that law.
