YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Prime Minister Robert Kocharian met with his French counterpart Lionel Jospin late Tuesday.
A broad range of issues pertaining to the possibilities of the Karabakh conflict settlement and extension of cooperation between the two countries were discussed between the two officials.
The same day governmen’s of the two countries signed two documen’s: an agreement on evasion of double taxation (property and income taxes) and on prevention of tax felonies. The two sides also signed a protocol on cooperation in the civil aviation sector.
The same day the French Foreign Minister Huber Vedrin hosted a banquet in Kocharian’s honor.
Earlier in the week Kocharian met with France’s Economy & Finance Minister Dominique Stross-Cann. During the meeting the sides specified cooperation fronts. Kocharian pointed out that the cooperation of the two countries in restructuring the drinking water supplies system in Armenia had prospects. Participants of the meeting noted the importance of France’s support of programs which are to be at the next World Bank consulting group on Armenia..
The parties also spoke about France’s support of Armenia in international and European economic organizations.
On the same day the prime minister visited the Alkatel electronic company. Managers of Alkatel noted that they were interested in further boosting cooperation. Since 1991 Alkatel has been participating in re-equipment of Armenia’s phone networks.
The company closely cooperates with Mars enterprise.
