YEREVAN (Armenpress) – President of Armenia Robert Kocharian met with directors of more than 20 major Armenian banks on Wednesday saying that the meeting aimed at discussing the current situation in the banking system of Armenia as well as to get familiar with the anticipations of the bankers for 2002 and with the relations with the executive government. According to the Press Office of the President–Robert Kocharian–who highly appreciated the banking shpere and the financial stability of Armenia–has mentioned that he constantly follows the situatrion and the development in the banking system of Armenia. The Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia Tigran Sargsian–in his report summarizing the 2001 results–called the year a succesful one in regard to the three percent inflation which was accurately predicted and preserved throughout the year. Sargsian also stated that in accordance with the strict policy of the Central Bank–the financial situation of several "sinking" banks had been tremendously improved. Sargsian added that the constant decreasing of the annual interest rates could be credited as a success as well. During the meeting a discussion took place concerning problems which the Armenian banks face nowadays in regards with argumen’s which constantly arise due to the lack of proper legislative and judicial fields in Armenia. President Kocharian called on the Bank officials to defend their rights as well as to invest in the real operating economy. According to Kocharian it was the time for the banks to secure own financial resources. In regards with fiscal year 2002–Kocharian stressted the economoic anticipation to be quite optimistic with real factors supporting the predicted economic growth. He stressed a huge amount of work to be done in the earthquake zone–which might contribute to the business conditions of the region. It will be a new field with new opportunities–where you can new business partners–Kocharian concluded addressing the bankers.
The last meeting of the State Commission for the Organization of Celebrations dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of the proclamation of Christianity took place on Wednesday with President Robert Kocharian presiding over the meeting.
According to the President public relations department–the participants listened to and considered the report written by the Commission’s Chairman Khosrov Haroutiunian evaluating the work done as well as the financial report of the 1700th anniversary celebrations.
The President positively assessed the commission’s work. Touching upon the history of the commission’s establishment–he pointed out that at the initial stage–there were doubts whether or not the commission would be able to manage the objectives set forth by the Church and the government. According to Kocharian–the commission managed to specify the tasks within a short period of time–coordinate the activities of various organizations connected with the festivities–and organize festive arrangemen’s.
According to Kocharian–"the scale of arrangemen’s was unprecedented for Armenia. There has never before been such a close cooperation between the state and the church. The entire complex of culture and art was involved in the festivities." Pointing out that the arrangemen’s went beyond the borders of Armenia–the country’s leader said: "It was a brilliant occasion for our country to present its culture–art and potential to the entire world."
The president said that the festivities were organized very efficiently–and now Armenia could use this experience to get a better idea of what should be done in future presentation of Armenia to the world. "The evaluation of the celebrations shows that we should not restrict ourselves to festivities only. This trend should be part of the constant work of our government officials." Kocharian underlined.
At the end of the meeting–the president awarded the Movses Khorenatsi medal to the Deputy Chairman of the Commission Khosrov Haroutiunian on Tuesday–for his efforts in organizing and carrying out the 1700th anniversary festivities.
For their active participation in the work on holding the arrangemen’s dedicated to the 1700th anniversary–Kocharian also awarded diplomas of acknowledgment to the Director of the Mesrop Mashdots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts–government appointee to the commission Sen Arevshatian–Director General of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia and the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall Nika Babayan–Director of the Hamo Beknazarian Armenfilm Cinema Studio Gevorg Gevorgian–Head of the Department for the Preservation of Monumen’s of History and Architecture Gagik Gyurjian–Secretary of the State Commission for the Organization of Festivities dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of the of Christianity Ashot Grigorian–Director of the National Picture Gallery of Armenia Shahen Khachatrian–Director of the Onix CJSC Gagik Kirakossian–Director and Principal Conductor of the State Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Choir Robert Mlkeyan–and finally to the Director of the "Christian Armenia – 1700" Fund Hayk Vardanian.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs was also awarded a diploma of acknowledgment by the President.
