YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–President of Armenia Robert Kocharian met with President of Argentina Fernando de Lauro in Davos Sunday on the margins of the World Economic Forum held in this Swiss resort.
The sides discussed bilateral relations between the two countries as well as ways to form an appropriate legal framework for economic cooperation. de Lauro spoke highly of the role of the Armenian community in the political and economic life of Argentina. Both stressed the importance of establishing close cooperation within various international institutions.
During Kocharian’s meeting with ABB Company President Goran Lyndall held the same day the two considered issues pertaining to the commissioning of a unit of the Yerevan Thermal Power Plant and the establishment of a joint venture to manufacture electrical measuring instrumen’s.
President Kocharian also met with First Deputy Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund M. Fischer. Kocharian outlined the economic situation and the course of reforms in Armenia following the October 27 events–declaring Armenia’s strong commitment to continued reforms. Fischer expressed the IMF’s readiness to further cooperate with Armenia.
Kocharian also met with the Federal Advisor for Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation /Prime Minister and Foreign Minister/ Joseph Dais. The sides discussed the Karabakh settlement. Kocharian thanked the Swiss Government for the organization of his meeting with Azeri President Haydar Aliyev.
