YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–President Robert Kocharian last week met with a delegation of the Ramkavar Party of Armenia–led by chairman of the central board of the party Haykashen Ouzounian. The leader of the Ramkavar Party of Armenia–Harutiun Karapetian–introduced the guests to the president.
Congratulating Kocharian upon his election as President of Armenia–the guests expressed their confidence that he would lead the Armenian people to prosperity. Ouzounian said that the presidential elections in Armenia had evoked a widespread response abroad and considerably raised Armenia’s international prestige–proving that Armenia is truly headed toward liberalism.
The president outlined the situation in Armenia and learned the opinions and offers of the delegation members. Yervand Azatian–Vardan Ouzounian and Ruben Terzian expressed their views and concerns about a number of issues.
"The government’s goal is to establish an open and free country," Kocharian stressed. The consolidation of free market relations will be continued in the economic sphere with special attention being paid to social problems–he said. Favorable conditions are being created to attract investmen’s–said the president. Stressing the importance of Diasporan participation in various investment programs–the president presented Armenia as a business partner and asked that cooperation be maintained at this level.
Addressing the issue of Armenia-Diaspora relations Kocharian said–"We are trying to overcome the obstacles that have existed and created tension for many years." According to him–the Diasporan organizations that have been established a long time ago "are our wealth–and the state will support them by all possible means." Kocharian recognized national unity as the foundation on which the state is to be built.
The Ramkavar Party representatives expressed their willingness to support the Armenian state.
