YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–During Prime Minister Robert Kocharian’s two-day visit to Georgia–the Armenian leader met with President Eduard Shevardnadze Tuesday.
During the meeting the two officials spoke about regional conflicts–particularly Karabakh and Abkhazia. Both Kocharian and Shevardnadze stressed the importance of settling the two conflicts through peaceful negotiations. The two stressed the importance of direct talks between the conflicting parties.
They also signed an agreement on evasion of double taxation–while the two countries’ deputy foreign ministers signed an agreement on cooperation in the preservation and collection of archives.
Issues pertaining to intensification of bilateral trade and economic relations as well as more efficient use of transit routes traversing Georgia were discussed during the meeting between the Kocharian and the Shevardnadze. The sides pointed out the importance of holding joint business forums.
The important role of the Armenian community of Georgia in the process of boosting bilateral relations was highlighted.
