KRASNODAR (Armenpress)–Krasnodar Governor Aleksander Tkachov and the Chairman of Russian Armenia’s Union Ara Abrahamian discussed issues concerning the recent ethnic tension in the Southern Russian city of Krasnodar involving members of the Armenian community. Reports indicate that an Armenian cemetery was rampaged by members of a local skin-head organization who damaged and destroyed several dozen tombstones and monumen’s.
Tkachov and Abrahamian were reported to also look into the ways of regulating the influx of illegal emigran’s. Tkachov was quoted by Itar-Tass saying that "the meeting was productive and constructive." He also said that the regional authority’s actions are directed against illegal emigran’s. "A significant portion of Armenia’s living in Krasnodar region settled here some two hundred years ago and are a part of region’s population–enjoying all the rights of Russian citizens," he said.
It was stated during the meeting that the confrontation contradicts the benefits of Russia. An agreement on close cooperation between the region’s authority and the Union was reached. A meeting of the Krasnodar region’s authorities and society with the representatives of Russian Armenia’s Union will take place on May 30-31.
