Major endorsement solidifies Ardy’s standing as the clear choice of Democratic leaders
GLENDALE – Ardy Kassakhian announced on Wednesday that Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has endorsed his campaign for Assembly District 43. Mayor Garcetti joins a long list of Los Angeles Democratic leaders who are backing Kassakhian’s candidacy, including L.A. Councilmembers David Ryu and Paul Krekorian, L.A. Community College Board President Scott J. Svonkin, and LAUSD Board President Steve Zimmer. The major endorsement from L.A.’s top official cements Kassakhian’s standing as the clear front-runner in the race.
“Ardy Kassakhian has made a real difference in the effort to promote justice and protect voting rights, and in the State Assembly he will fight for better schools, safe neighborhoods and keeping entertainment industry jobs right here,” Mayor Eric Garcetti said. “I’m proud to add my voice to Ardy’s growing coalition of supporters.”
Mayor Garcetti’s announcement follows major endorsements from United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) and the Los Angeles Police Protective League. Ardy Kassakhian has demonstrated broad community support and since launching his campaign last year, he has raised more than $600,000 and received endorsements from State Treasurer John Chiang, Secretary of State Alex Padilla, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, Congressman Brad Sherman, Assemblymember Jackie Goldberg (ret.), the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley, and the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO.
