YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenian President Robert Kocharian, who will be in Paris for a four-day visit beginning Saturday, will preside over the inauguration of the largest exhibition of Armenian religious artifacts outside of Armenia to open at the world renowned Louvre museum in Paris. Vigen Sargsian, coordinator of the events organized within the framework of the Year of Armenia in France and aide to the Armenian president announced Friday that the exhibition will incorporate the treasures of Holy See of St. Etchmiadzin, 200 exclusive works of art from the Armenian History Museum and the Madenataran. Sargsian said that for the first time in Louvre more than 30 Armenian cross stones will be presented which are kept in different Armenian museums and churches. The exhibition will last until May 15. Sargsian said the exhibit was a unique opportunity to present Armenia’s culture abroad. He added that annually 8.5 million people visit Louvre annually and taking it into consideration he said that in 3 months about 2 million people will visit the exhibition. During the Year about 600 official events will be conducted in 100 towns in France. Kocharian, accompanied by First Lady Bella, began a four-day official visit to France Saturday. Kocharian was greeted by his French counterpart Jacques Chirac and then was scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Dominique de Vilpin, Senate President Christian Poncelet and National Assembly Chairman Jean-Louis Debren. Kocharian and the First Lady will attend the Charles Aznavour and Friends concert in Paris’Garniers Opera Theater, which is part of the Year of Armenia in France. The Kocharians will also visit an exhibition of prominent Russian-Armenian painter Ivan Ayvazovsky at the Naval Museum and another exhibition, titled Twelve Capital Cities of Armenia. Presidents of France and Armenia will inaugurate the Treasures of Armenia exhibit at the Louvre. In Paris Kocharian will also meet prominent members of the French Armenian community and then will proceed to Nice to inaugurate the Armenian Park there and to meet also with town leadership.
