The new decade, like no other, will bring significant turning points for Armenians, and our ability to confront the challenges has the promise to elevate our potential as a nation.
The new decade will bring the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in 2015. The next four years will be crucial in our fight for the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and fruition of our national demands for reparations. We saw the challenges our nation faced during the effort to pass the Genocide resolution in Congress this month and the perpetuation of the crime of Genocide, the denial of which is tantamount to committing the act. The lessons learned from this experience should propel us to band together to advance this issue, and those divisive elements in the community, who for personal gains, continue to stand as obstacles to our national aspirations, must be stifled.
2011 will mark the 20th anniversary of the second Republic of Armenia. Yes, we must celebrate this milestone as it is a testament to our national survival. But, we must also examine the events of the past 20 years and correct the numerous mistakes, which have prevented the Republic of Armenia from growing and advancing and have plunged it into the ranks of some of the most underdeveloped nations in the world. During the new decade we will also mark the centennial—in 2018—of the establishment of the First Independent Republic of Armenia. If anything, the challenges our forefathers tackled to build a nation out of ruins can become the guidebook for strengthening the Armenian homeland and ensuring prosperity for Armenia.
Similarly, as the international community plots to challenge the very existence of Artsakh, our national drive to, at all costs, protect the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and ensure the right to self-determination of the people of Karabakh must be a priority. Famous human rights activist and Soviet dissident Andrei Sakharov once said: “For Azerbaijan, Karabakh is a matter of prestige… For Armenia, it is a matter of life and death.” This statement should become a reminder to us of how crucial Artsakh is to the survival of the Armenian nation.
Our efforts must also be redoubled toward our brethren in Javakhk who face insurmountable obstacles just to survive daily life and preserve their national identity. Making the plight of Armenians in Javakhk a priority for the next decade would require all hands on deck—the Diaspora and the government and people of Armenia.
The last decade saw our community strengthen and develop into a more dynamic entity—multi-layered and multi-faceted. It is this convergence of diverse backgrounds that has made us a resilient force when it comes to tackling national issues and providing assistance where necessary. The community’s dedication to the national aspiration of the Armenian people was tested time and again, and if the events of this past year are an indication, they will continue to be tested. We are confident that our community, with all its organizations, schools, churches and institutions will pass those tests and will confront the challenges proudly and decisively.
Happy New Year. Together let us guarantee that our national triumphs will prevail in the new decade.

The defeat of the genocide resolution in 2010. The appointment of Byrza as ambassador. Inability to convince Kobe to sight with THY. With all the failures, is there not any Armenian (in ARF) who resigns in USA because of those failures? I dont understand.
It’s sad isn’t it? How Obama and Clinton have both acted like snake pits. On the other spectrum our own men in the Republic of Armenia by not diminishing and getting rid of the selfishness of the oligarchs and the corruption, both the government in our Motherland and the oligarchs have deceived our nation, our sovereignty and the future of our existence to produce, to expand and to become a better nation. Thus they acted like tyrants and against the prosperity of our nation. Tavajans the likes of them. In Armenia today there are two classes; the extremely rich and the extremely poor. Of course the poor are far more than the rich. There exists no middle class; should our country be that way? We were once a smart, more like a brilliant nation; WHAT HAPPENED TO US??????
Armen, when you address ‘failures’ you are misdirected… you shall have addressed your query to why the misdirected Armenian Assembly failed…
Obviously, there is a lot you do not understand…

Happy New Year to all Armenians around the globe!
I want to wish everyone here a Happy New Year!!!! We are progressing even though it is painfully slow. For the denialists, I wish them a happy journey to Jahenem.
Armenia must prosper and become a far better country than what it is today. A middle class must be created and not the very elite few rich but the majority of our people to be dirt poor. The government must start acting like REAL PATRIOTS and put aside any selfishness of making only themselves rich and bounty; rather than thinking of the prosperity and the future of their country and their people. They should start thinking about their grandchildren’s future (and NOT only their very own; but the grandchildren of ALL ARMENIANS in ARMENIA and the future of all the children and children’s children of ARMENIA)!!!!!!!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE AT ASBAREZ AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERY ARMENIAN BROTHER AND SISTER IN THE ENTIRE WORLD!!!!!!
Too. a Holy and Joyous Armenian Christmas
