GLENDALE–A commission overseeing funeral arrangemen’s for Armenian Revolutionary Federation leader Hrair Maroukhian–who passed away Monday at his home in Athens following a long illness–announced that the remains of the late leader would be transported to Armenia Thursday–with funeral and burial services scheduled for Saturday in Yerevan.
ARF representatives from Armenia–Karabakh and all other Diaspora regions will be on hand for the national burial of the 70-year-old leader–who served as the party’s Bureau chairman’since 1971.
The central executives of the Homenetmen–Armenian General Athletic Union and Scouting–the Armenian Relief Society Inc.–the Hamazkayine Armenian Educational and Cultural Association–have each issued separate announcemen’s mourning Maroukhian’s death.
In Californian–the ARF Central Committee of Western US has already begun receiving condolence messages and expression. With this in mind–the ARF CC announced that from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday–condolences may be offered at the ARF Regional Center at 104 N. Belmont–Glendale.
On Sunday–December 27–at the request of the ARF CC–all area churches will honor the late leader with requiem Masses. That same day at 5 p.m. a public memorial gathering is scheduled at Ferrahian school’s "Avedissian" Hall which will be preceded by a special requiem Mass at Holy Martyr’s Armenian Church at 4 p.m.
