YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Russian President Dmitry Medvedev congratulated his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sarkisian Friday on the occasion of the 17th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia’s Independence from the Soviet Union.
Armenia’s throughout the world will mark the republic’s independence on Sunday.
In his letter, Medvedev praised relations between the two countries and commended Armenia for having successfully consolidating its statehood, developed its economy, and sustained its own foreign policy.
“Russia highly underscores the traditional friendly relations between the two countries,” Medvedev’s letter read. “I am sure that the trust, dynamic political dialogue and effective practical cooperation will continue serving to the expansion of Russian-Armenian ties. It fully corresponds to the interests of our country, to ensuring peace, stability and security in the South Caucasus.”
Meanwhile, the British Embassy in Yerevan on Friday said Queen Elizabeth II congratulated President Serzh Sarkisian and the people of Armenia on the occasion of Armenian Independence Day.
I have much pleasure in sending Your Excellency my congratulations on the celebration of your National Day, together with my best wishes for the happiness and prosperity of the Government and people of Armenia in the year ahead.”
