WASHINGTON–More than 40 Senators and US Representatives joined the Armenian National Committee of America in the United States Capitol building Thursday at an Armenian Genocide commemoration ceremony.
The observance featured powerful speeches by House Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt (D-Mo.); Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-NY); Armenian Genocide resolution author Rep. George Radanovich (R-Calif.); House Democratic Whip David Bonior (D-Mich.); Sen. Spencer Abraham (R-Mich.) and more than thirty other leading members of Congress. Armenian Ambassador Rouben Shugarian delivered a moving address.
The program was attended by senior Administration officials from the White House–State Department–and National Security Council.
The Embassy of Greece was cited for its official recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Other embassies represented at the event were Cyprus–Russia–and Ukraine.
In addition to attending the ANCA Genocide Commemoration–US Representatives participated in an Armenian Genocide Special Order on the House floor organized by representatives Frank Pallone and John Porter.
