YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Political Secretary of the Union of Socialist Forces & Intellectuals of Armenia Ashot Manucharian refused to give a testimony to the Military Prosecutor’s Office–which conducted the October 27 case investigation. In his interview to the Armenian National–TV Military Prosecutor of Armenia Gagik Jhangirian said Ashot Manucharian came to the prosecutor’s office following a decision made by the head of the investigation group on October 19.
Gagik Jhangirian emphasized that Manucharian’s refusal to give a testimony does not suggest that the Military Prosecutor’s office should quit its intention on bringing him to the Prosecutor or invite him for interrogation.
The Military Prosecutor emphasized that the statemen’s made by Manucharian refer directly to the October 27 case–particularly to the separated part of it which is under investigation now. Jhangirian also stated that to have irrefutable facts–and not to let the relevant authorities know about them may sound rather attractive from the political point of view and may bring certain dividends to the author–while from the juridical point of view Manucharian must inform the investigation bodies about the grounds he has to issue such statemen’s.
The Military Prosecutor also said that the preliminary investigation body will add 10-15 more days to the previously established 50 to enable the lawyers–the relatives of those assassinated to get acquainted with the materials of the case. According to Gagik Jhangirian–legal proceedings in connection with the case will start in late November or early December.
We would remind you that Ashot Manucharian stated at the beginning of the press conference–and later at his rally the following day–that President Robert Kocharian concealed that he was thrusted with the Meghri-Lachin territorial swap project from the preliminary investigation and the fact that he was warned that a bloodshed was to come in case of refusal. Ashot Manucharian leveled direct accusations at the special services of the United States and France in this issue. Accusations were also brought against the investigation group–which according to Manucharian–didn’t take the version of the crime organized by foreign forces into consideration.
