(Marmara translation)–Reporting from Diyarbekir–Milliyet newspaper writes that an Armenian church and adjoining Armenian cemetery in the village of Arguin has been demolished–to be replaced by a mosque which is already under construction. Though work on the mosque was halted following complaints by a group of citizens–stones from the torn down Armenian church have already been put to use in various construction projects–and local builder Kerem Emre has reportedly collected a large sum from residents to build the three-story mosque.
The head of the local government Sadeq Turan initially attempted to block the project–saying two mosques already exist in the village–and that if the building of yet another mosque was necessary–it should be done at a location other than where the Armenian church stands. Asking why he would obstruct the project–workers and locals posed the question–"Why–are you Armenian?" Turan apparently gave in to their deman’s.
