YEREVAN (Golos Armenii–Snark)-Hovannes Aivazovsky’s famous painting–"Before the Storm," completed in 1888 and just recently restored–has been returned to the National Picture Gallery of Armenia.
Head of the restoration department of the National Picture Gallery–Hamlet Matevosian–said that more than 100 paintings have undergone similar restorations during the past six years. The main cause of the damage to the paintings were permanent temperature changes in the halls due to the absence of heating.
The National Picture Gallery of Armenia contains more than 20,000 paintings–sculptures and items objects decorative art from Armenia–Russia–Western-European and other Eastern countries.
