YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)– Ara Papian was appointed acting spokesman for the Armenian Foreign Ministry–the Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Arsen Gasparian told a jounrnalists on December 25. Gasparian explained this appointment–saying that he is going to engage in scientific work–after completion of which he is going to return to fulfillment of his obligations as spokesman.
In 1997-1998 Ara Papian was in charge of the department for cooperation in the area of security. Prior to that–Papian–who is an Iranian Studies expert–worked as charge d’affaires to Romania–later as First and then Second Secretary of the Armenian Embassy in Iran. Papian also worked as the chief of the section of Iran of the Armenian Foreign Ministry.
Arsen Gasparian also reported that Mikael Bagratuni was appointed chief of the department for relations with mass media of the Foreign Ministry. Prior to this appointment–Bagratuni worked as spokesman and later as Cultural Attache of the Armenian Embassy in Washington. Ex-chief of the dpeartment for relations with mass media Areg Hovhannissian was appointed Chief Consul to Aleppo.
